What can a chair do for you?

Sitting is always the means to an end. It’s what you do when you need to launch a new idea, solve a problem, or share a story. Herman Miller designs chairs that perfectly support the people who sit in them, so you can focus on all the things you do—for yourself and for your organization.

A Better Sit for Everyone

Chairs that move like you move. Surfaces that conform to your shape. Support that enables your best posture. These are just some of the ways Herman Miller makes chairs better for the people who sit in them.

Sit from a position of strength.

When you sit, gravity works against you, pulling on your upper body, causing you to slump. But when your back is properly supported as you sit, your muscles don’t need to work as hard to maintain a healthful, natural posture. Herman Miller’s patented PostureFit technology works by tilting your hips slightly forward, stabilizing the base of your spine and helping it maintain its natural S-shaped curve in profile. This empowers your body and reduces fatigue.

    Balanced Recline

Support never takes a break—even when you do.

The act of reclining is a great way to take a microbreak from sitting. It redistributes your weight and opens up the angle of your upper and lower body, which can be good for your circulation. However, if the same level of support you get sitting upright falls away as you recline, you won’t feel balanced and supported as your chair moves with you. To solve this problem, Herman Miller engineered their tilt motion around your body’s natural pivot points—your ankles, knees, and hips. The result is a smooth, balanced recline that works for everybody, and every body.

    Dynamic Support

    Because sitting is active.

Research suggests that as you sit for an hour, your posture will change approximately 53 times. And every time is does, you don’t want to have to fight against your chair. That’s why Herman Miller chairs feature dynamic surface materials that are adaptive enough to conform to your shape, intelligent enough to allow freedom of movement, and resilient enough to return to their original shape time and time again.
