Austin's Good Design Challenge Reception and Silent Auction

Join us to view the Bertoia Side Chairs, reinvented as works of art by local Architecture & Design firms.

A panel of judges will be choosing the 2023 Design Champion, and attendees will be able to vote for the People's Choice award winner.

When you arrive:
You will check in to receive your nametag, a welcome card, and two tickets to vote for your favorite chair(s) to receive the people’s choice award. You will also be asked to join the silent auction via QR code link.

Silent Auction
Each firm’s chair has been re-made into incredible works of art, and you’ll want to participate in the silent auction. On your phone, you’ll just fill out your name, phone, and email to create an account at 32auctions.com. Then, you’ll be able to look at each firm’s chairs, place your bid, and get a text/email if you’ve been out-bid. You really DO NOT want to miss out on these chairs/sculptures! The creativity of this community is an inspiring thing to experience. Bidding will end at 6:45 pm so that the winners can be announced. If you win one of these amazing artworks, your payment will be made as a donation directly on the non-profit’s website, which means it will be tax deductible donation.

People’s Choice Award – How to Vote
There will be a People’s Choice Award given to the firm with the most votes from attendees. Each attendee will receive two free tickets. They’ll look like raffle tickets, but you will put them in jars to cast your vote for your favorite(s). When you want to cast more votes, you can “purchase” them with a Sage Studio donation (one ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20). Tickets can be purchased via QR code on your welcome card. The jars will be picked up at 6:30 and the votes will be counted. At the end of the evening, all of these proceeds will be donated to Sage Studio.

2023 Design Champion
This year’s Design Champion will be named by a panel of judges to be announced at a later date. We are so appreciative of the time and talent they are bringing to the design challenge.

What is Sage Studio?
In the 6+ years since they opened their doors, they have represented the work of more than 60 artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mounted over 30 exhibitions, and represented artists at the Outsider Art Fair in New York City four times. They have facilitated collaborations between artists and nationally recognized partners, including Vans shoes, Whataburger, and the Biden presidential campaign. They have been featured in Forbes, Austin Monthly, Arts + Culture Texas, and Hyperallergic, been recognized as Austin's "Best Outsider Art Advocate" by the Austin Chronicle, and thrice been voted one of the best galleries in Austin by Chronicle readers.
